The conferences about digital heritage are becoming a tradition in Estonia. In March 2004, there was an international workshop "Management of Digital Collections – Opportunities for MAL Collaboration". The workshop presentations are available on the web.

The 2005 conference was the initiative of the Estonian Ministry of Culture and the Council on Preservation of Digital Heritage that is attached to the ministry. The conference was supported by the MinervaPlus project.

The organising team of the conference has had lots of help from the Estonian Knowledge Management Trust, National Library of Estonia, the Conservation Centre "Kanut" and several other institutions and individuals.
